経皮吸収とは

経皮吸収とは皮膚から物質を吸収することです。

経皮毒と最も関係が深いのはこの経皮吸収によるものです。

皮膚は基本的にバリアのような構造になっていて、外部からの物質を防ぐ役割を持っています。そのため近年までは、皮膚からの物質の吸収はほとんどないと考えられていたようです。

ただ最近の研究によって、脂に溶けやすい性質（脂溶性）の物質は皮膚からでも吸収されやすいということがわかっています。

医療薬にもこの性質を生かした薬品が多くあります。

しかし、有効な成分ならいいのですが、日用品や医療薬には経皮毒性のある物質もあるため、これらの経皮毒性化学物質が経皮吸収によって体内に入るとなると問題があります。

また経口吸収の毒素排出率が90%なのに対して、経皮吸収によって取り込まれた毒素の排出率は10％程度といわれています。
